I hadst, so I loved the movie instantly. Okay so it can be a little tough to follow (i.e the dream and vision sequences) and some of the special effects are not in the slightest bit convincing, but it is still a very good story, and provides a different and interesting view of the far future. However, then I went ahead and read the book, and the flaws become apparent. The novel is simply too big in concept to squeeze into a 120 minute film, and as a result the movie starts looking rather second rate, a sort of "Dune-Lite" if you get my drift. Add to that an ending which simply does not occur in the book, and a rather naff addition of a fighting style for the freman ( also this does not appear in the book)and I think you can see where this is going. It's a real shame. I want so much to say this movie is wonderful, that I love it as much as Star Wars. but I cant. That is not too say that there is nothing to enjoy in this film. Far from it, it is still worth seeing and picking up on video, and you will still say to yourself " I really fancy sitting and watching "Dune" tonight. You will still enjoy the battle sequences, feel awed when the giant sandworms appear and feel at the end that you have sat through a darn good Science fiction, I do feel this is one for the Science fiction fans only, as it does not have the universal appeal of Star wars.

Duke nukem forever. Dűne sorozat. Total departure from the source material, BUT, one of the coolest, best thought out adaptations in sci fi filmmaking! Lynch did a great job of adapting this movie from the books (And we all know if he had been left alone without interference it would have been even better) The weirding module, with a different name and introduced in some other sci fi movie would have been hailed as one of the greatest sci fi weapons ever, possible even better than the lightsaber or raygun. Only the fact that it was shoehorned into a property that never needed it in the first place negated it's cool factor. Lynch's Dune while lacking in many points that made the source material so beloved, is still a great movie if you choose to forgive the film industry for unnecessary meddling for no good reason.

Cant imagine the number of hours it took to create this series, research, script, graphics. You must really love Dune. Great job. When I run out of Star Wars (pre Disney) I might peep Dune. Unleash the Sardaukar. I thought this was warhammer 40k. My beloved 40k. how you've. errr. borrowed from Dune! Wait a minute! Borrowing from one's influences to create a similar, but smashing future one would be insane to wanna live in, is the very definition of Honoring a classic! Happy again. Duneland skyward.
